The International Education School (IES)was established in March 2011 and serves as the core platform for the university’s internationalization strategy and a key gateway for its opening up to the outside world. Adhering to the philosophy of “Creativity, Credibility andglobality,” the school is committed to cultivating globally competitive professionals with specialized expertise.The IES has established an international education system primarily focusing on the education and management of international students studying in China, the research of the regional and country studies, the development of English-taught majors, and international non-degree education and training programs,all to build the brand of “Studying at CJU”.

Main Responsibilities and Functions:

*Overseeing the recruitment and management of international students;

*Managing the development of the European Studies Center and the New Silk Road International Joint Research Center;

*Leading the developmentof English-taught programs at the university;

*Offering the International Economics and Trade (English-taught) program;

*Conducting Chinese language training programs for international students in China;

*Providing language training programs for students studying abroad;

*Organizing short-term and long-term international group study programs, etc..

Management of International Students

1.Overview

The IES serves as the University’s designated administrative body for international student affairs,including admissions, management, andteaching affairs coordination, while providing daily life and study guidanceas well asservices to students.The University has been enrolling international students since 2004 and now boasts a comprehensive international student cultivation system, covering Chinese language training, undergraduate, master’s, doctoral, and postdoctoral programs. 10 full-English-taught programs are offered. Multiple scholarship options are available, including the Chinese Government Scholarship, Chongqing Municipal Government Mayor’s Scholarship,and Scholarship for International Chinese Language Educators. Currently, we have over 600 enrolled students from 57 countries and regions.

The IES has been a proactive participant in the“Study in China”initiative, focusing on quality enhancement and efficiency improvement. By implementing education quality certification and management optimization, as well as strengthening the curriculum system and teaching quality, it was consecutively awarded the title of“Chongqing’s Outstanding Institution for International Education”in 2023 and 2024. Our international students have achieved outstanding results in various competitions, including the“Chinese Bridge”Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students, the World University Bridge Design Competition, and the Chinese Language Proficiency Contest for International Students, winning gold and silver medals.

Ⅳ.Construction of English-Taught Programs

The School is responsible for construction of all the English-taught programs including five undergraduate programsand five master programs.

3.International Economics and Trade (English-taught) undergraduate program

Since 2024, the School has overseen the development of the International Economics and Trade (English-taught) undergraduate program. The program was officially launched in September 2015,recognized as a Chongqing Logistics and Commerce Characteristic Discipline Cluster in 2017,and approved as the“English-Taught Curriculum Enhancement Initiative”that year.

The program employs a three-fold training system integrating interdisciplinary learning, industry-education collaboration, and cultural empowerment. It combines economics, international trade practices and logistics modules to strengthen core competencies such as digital trade tools application. Relying on the practical platform of government-university-enterprise collaboration, students’understanding of China’s economic policies and market dynamics is strengthened.The programaims to cultivate compound talents who possess both professional skills in international economics and trade and the ability to interpret China's experiences. These talents should be able to not only take on policy analysis and practical operations in multinational enterprises and international organizations, but also proactively shoulder the mission of mutual learning among civilizations.In the context of globalized cooperation, they will serve as a bridge of“knowing and befriending China”.

Ⅴ.Construction ofEuropean Studies Center/New Silk Road International Joint Research Center

In 2015, the New Silk Road International Joint Research Center was established together with the Opole University of Technology in Poland. In 2017, the European Studies Center(ESC) of Chongqing Jiaotong University was founded and conferred a MOE Registered Center for Country and Regional Studies. In 2024, the ESC became a CTTI Source Think Tank. Focusing on country and regional studies, the ESC conducts fundamental and cut-edging researches on the politics, economy, language, culture, transportation and law of various European countries (especially Central and Eastern Europe). It is a comprehensive research institution integrating academic research, decision-making consultation, personnel training, and international exchange.

Main Research Areas:international transport corridors and international trade policies;international treaties, foreign policies and political party systems of European countries;news media and cultural exchange in countries along the“Belt and Road”(particularly CEE);European architectural culture, architectural heritage preservation;European engineering standards and the global dissemination of Chinese technology, European language and culture;European artistic design thinking and methods, European design education theory, comparative studies of Chinese and European art and design;international Chinese language education.

Notable Achievements:

Published Annual Report on Development of Poland,China’s first Blue Book on Poland;

Issued the academic journal EUROSCOPE;

Establishedthe Industry-University-Research Institute Collaboration Alliance Between Chongqing and Countries along the CRE(now renamed as Land-sea ConnectivityIndustry-University-Research Collaboration Alliance)

Established International Chinese Language Education Alliance of the Countries along the CRE;

Held four International Forum on Industry-University-Research Institute Cooperation between Chongqing and the Countries along the CRE (now renamed as International Forum on Land-sea ConnectivityIndustry-University-Research Cooperation).

Undertaken over 30 national and provincial research projects, published over 70 high-level papers, submitted over20 policy reports which were adopted by government leaders, and won over 10 provincial awards since 2017.

Ⅵ.InternationalNon-degree Education and Training

1.Chinese Language Training Programs/HSK(Online)Test Center

The School offerssix-month orone-yearChinese language training programs for international students of zero foundation, elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels.These programs provide systematic listening, speaking, reading and writing training to overcome cross-cultural barriers and prepare students for academic, social, and professional pursuits in China. The School is also responsible for running the HSK(Online)Test Center at CJU.

2.Overseas Study Language Training Programs

Catering to Chinese students, the School provides training for English proficiency tests (IELTS, TOEFL, GRE, CET-4/6) and other languages like Japanese, Korean,and German.Relying on our faculty with backgrounds studying overseas, the training programsadopt a combined model of hierarchical teaching and personalized tutoring.It offers customized courses for study abroad applications, postgraduate entrance exams, and foreign enterprise employment. These courses enhance exam skills and academic writing, while also providing overseas study consultation and cross-cultural training. Together, a comprehensive, multi-level system to improve cross-cultural language abilitiesis built, helping students achieve breakthroughs in both language proficiency and global competence.

Ⅵ.Construction ofChongqing Land-sea International Academy

In July 2024, the“ChongqingLand-SeaInternational Academy”Construction Project was approved as a major initiative under Chongqing's Inland Education Opening-up Platform Development Program. The project isto be constructedfrom 2024 to 2026, with a total funding amount of 8 million yuan.In line with the integrated development of IES and CLIA,the CLIA will be established as a substantive model international exchange platform and a scenario-based teaching practice base,supported by the following key pillars:the EuropeanStudiesCenter, the AI Map Lab, the “Charm of Bridges” Cultural Experience Basefor International Students, and the National Conditions Education Baseof“Strong Transportation Network Nation”. This modern academy will serve as a convergence point for domestic and global resources, fostering collaborative projects and high-end talent, and blending the essence of traditional Chinese academies with contemporary international exchange functions.
